easter baskets & treats with quinn popcorn PLUS A GIVEAWAY! {CLOSED}

’tis the season for easter baskets! we haven’t really gone wild in this department but you gotta have some fun with it, right? last year, we did a little egg hunt in the backyard for miss elinor and it was too funny. she was so excited about finding all those brightly colored eggs. she collected them in her basket and brought them inside to gaze at in wonder. she was so overjoyed with her egg collection. AND THEN! she discovered that the eggs were filled with treats! so you can only imagine the enthusiasm level upon making that discovery…

elinor hasn’t really done much in the sugar-overdose-candy-junk-food department. call us lame-o, if you must. but we are just fine with that. i like that her taste buds find delight in simple pleasures like blueberries and that she has cultivated a sophisticated palate when it comes to special occasion treats. to her, splitting a homemade macaron with her papa is the créme de la créme. and cake and ice cream at a party is just so over-the-top amazing. that’s a good way to live.

so back to last year… when we were deciding on easter egg contents, we stuck to elinor’s favorite snacks and treats. and they just so happened to be mama and papa approved! elinor’s eggs were filled with annie’s organic cheddar bunnies + hail merry chocolate macaroons + organic raisins. and you know what? you would have thought that she won the lottery. and it was nice that she could enjoy her “special treats” without subsequently bouncing off the walls before catapulting into a sugar coma right before we went to church and spent the entire day out and about, sans nap. that would have been an ugly sight indeed.

this year, we plan to do the same for elinor’s basket, with one fabulous addition: QUINN POPCORN

we have the eggs and the basket and all the elements so all we have left is to fill and hide so she can find them and enjoy! stay tuned for pictures from all that because it is bound to be entertaining.

and in other easter food news…for our annual easter egg decorating contest, i am planning to whip up a tasty and festive snack so we can munch while we paint and dye and decorate and then judge each other’s designs (yes, in the spirit of the season, we have a family contest and judge each other. often, quite harshly. and it’s a blast.) i am going to use some QUINN vermont maple & sea salt popcorn as a base for some pinterest-worthy bunny bait. sweet and salty popcorn with some kind of chocolate and definitely nuts. i am betting that it will be wonderfully addictive.

  1. These look so lovely! Popcorn is such a great snack, though I must admit I’ve never ventured much out of the butter/salt/caramel standard varieties! Something I should definitely change. My aunt used to do egg hunts for us kids in their backyard as well, it was so much fun! These days I’d trade the chocolates for healthier goodies, though – rice crisps and seed bars and dehydrated fruit and the likes. I think it’s so amazing that little Elinor already has a refined palate and enjoys more of what is actually good!!

    • hey vanessa! thanks for playing AND sharing a bit more about you! i think you will really enjoy their flavors. quite tasty and made with good stuff too. you are officially entered to win! if you’d like, feel free to enter on instagram as well. AND, don’t forget about that 20% discount code for online orders. so fab.

      happy easter week!

  2. I have seen Quinn Popcorn at the grocery and just never picked up a box, but I am definitely going to take advantage of the Swanky+Dapper discount code. I am 20 weeks pregnant with a little boy and salty popcorn would make a great substitute for my pickle obsession! Our daughter turned one in January and we have tried to steer clear of sugary sweets as well. My mother is giving each grandchild an Easter cracker at our Easter lunch with a paper hat, finger puppet, and other goodies in it. And I am all for dyed eggs, yummy protein. Happy Easter – we serve a risen Savior! 🙂

    • YES! please do some shopping at a discount. and share with friends! i feel you on the preggo cravings…and QUINN stuff really hits the spot. thanks for playing AND sharing a bit more about you! i think you will really enjoy their flavors. quite tasty and made with good stuff too. you are officially entered to win! if you’d like, feel free to enter on instagram as well.

have a blessed holiday. SUNDAY IS COMING…

  3. those popcorn flavors sound out of this world amazing! i’d have to eat them without my husband around though…he eats popcorn by the fistful — kind of caveman like but it’s kind of endearing :p — and i eat it one popped kernel at a time 🙂 i also love the easter m&m’s in the popcorn — so pretty. my little one is only 2 months old but i’m looking forward to when he’s older and making easter-y themed snacks like that for him to munch on (and easter baskets too of course!).

    • we love popcorn around here. glad we are in good company… 🙂 have fun with your little one. it isn’t full-blown easter egg basket fun yet but why not make an adult one? someone might as well enjoy all the yumminess, right?

  4. This comment has nothing to do with the giveaway… But everything to do with the fact this a total “dentist approved” post. Please be “lame-o” parents forever more. No kid needs sticky icky candies to get stuck in their teeth and cause severe decay. I see far too many kiddos her age with cavities in every tooth and it breaks my heart on the daily. Keep up these great parenting skills. And please pass them along to all parents everywhere.

    Love, a proud dentist.

    • YAY for dentist approved posts! We try, we try. I think Elinor has tried one gummy star candy from Whole Foods in her entire 2.5 years 🙂 She thought it was tasty but was a little confused. Truly, she would rather eat a handful of blueberries. I love that her sweet tooth is satisfied by real sweets like some raisins or yogurt with honey. Does she like to have an occasional cookie or scoop of ice cream when we are celebrating (or with the grandparents…)? Absolutely. And that doesn’t bother me one bit. But I really want her to enjoy all kinds of foods and appreciate the tastes of each instead of just getting excited about the sweet stuff. I want her to have some balance instead of just looking forward to dessert or something. All food is to be enjoyed!

She is going to be such a little weirdo – and I wouldn’t have it any other way. She is the kid that requests “chia with my peanut butter, mama” from the cart when I am shopping. And the other day, she asked me if we could “share a boocha (kombucha)”. I gotta get in there early before all her friends jump in with the other stuff…we’ll see how long it lasts…

And you would be so proud! E was given a lollipop the other day to bring home and when we were cleaning out her bag to put things away, she found it and asked about it. I told her that it is candy which is okay to have every once in a while but it is made with lots of sugar and stuff that will give her sugar bugs on her teeth and make her tongue turn a funny color (all true). I then asked if she would prefer a special sweet snack (apples with cinnamon and pecan butter). She paused and thought and replied, “apples mama. no sugar bugs. eeeeeewww. i throw it away.” GOOD GIRL. I pray she keeps it up. Honestly, she is better than her mama…

      • Sugar bugs!!! I love it! She’s going to be my poster child example for the kids who love the sugar bugs and green/blue/purple tongues. I’m so proud of ALL of this 🙂 xoxo – can’t wait to enjoy some yummy food with you girls sometime this month!!!

  5. Yum! These flavorings sound wonderful, especially the maple and sea salt – yum! I’m a big fan of sweet/salty pairings 🙂 As for your stance on overdosing little one on sweets – I completely agree & think it’s the sweetest thing when our little one finds the biggest pleasure in eating simple treats like berries, and the occasional chocolate indulgence. I, myself, need to take a lesson from her because I am the worst when it comes to overindulging my sweet tooth! 😉
